{Baby Shower}: Bloom in Fall

Congratulations to Diva (Audi and Eva) who will be having their first baby on November.  They tied the knot 3 years ago and Audi joined military soon after and got deployed to Afghanistan. Long story short, they finally got what they are longing for.

I was honored to be in a tiny part of their baby shower planning.  Since they will reveal their baby gender during the shower, I had to keep the color neutral.   These are the party favors.

I made several party favors: Polka-dot eggs filled with kisses and sixlets candies,  Baby shoes filled with sixlets candies, gummy bear enclosed in an envelope and lollipops.

So what do you think? does my color neutral enough to keep the guests pondering on the baby's gender?

{Man Yue}: a little passion from chinese tradition

Two weeks ago I was asked to make parcels for Man Yue.  What is Man Yue? It's the first month celebration of newborn.  This is a strong Chinese culture in which mom has to take 30 day home rest after giving birth (can't leave the house and has to be bundled up from head to toe, if possible not to wash hair too) and baby has to adjust itself to the new world.  Then at the end of the Man Yue, you suppose to celebrate.  People shave the baby hair and give regiment to make it grow thicker. The old folks keep the tradition alive with red eggs, home made glutinous rice and ang ku cake.  The young generation makes the tradition simpler with a quick order by phone or internet.

Here's my version of Man Yue parcel, a modernize of traditional culture.

Most common parcel consists of small deserts.  Don't be surprise if you receive this and a small cake and sometimes a full size roasted duck or chicken too.  For sure they will make my day when I receive one.   Please visit my sweet blog to view the cake I made for Man Yue.
